My Story

I’m Aleksandar Sesum, an IT leader with more than 12 years of experience in technology, built from the ground up.
 

My story started in Serbia, where my parents made the difficult decision to leave everything they knew behind in search of a better future for our family in the United States. Their sacrifice taught me early that opportunity means very little without hard work, humility, and the willingness to keep moving forward when things get difficult.
 

My interest in technology started when I was about 12 years old, after my father gave me an old HP Pavilion computer. It was big, slow, and outdated, but to me it was fascinating. I took it apart, put it back together, broke things, fixed them, and reinstalled Windows more times than I can remember. What started as curiosity quickly became a passion for understanding how technology works and, eventually, how it can make people and organizations better.
 

The path into IT wasn’t straightforward. After high school, I worked long hours in a factory while paying my way through school. I originally pursued Business Administration before realizing that technology was where I truly belonged. Changing direction meant starting over in many ways, but it was one of the best decisions I ever made.
 

While finishing my education, I was already working in IT and learning the profession firsthand. I grew through roles across business analysis, data centers, network operations, systems administration, service delivery, infrastructure, and IT operations. Each step gave me a different perspective on technology and, just as importantly, on the people who depend on it every day.
 

As my career progressed, my focus shifted from solving individual technical problems to building teams, improving operations, managing risk, and helping organizations navigate change. I moved into leadership roles across legal services, healthcare, and now financial services, industries where security, compliance, governance, reliability, and trust are critical.
 

Today, as a Director of Information Technology, my responsibility is much broader than technology alone. I focus on building strong teams, aligning technology with business strategy, strengthening cybersecurity and governance, modernizing systems, improving the employee experience, and creating an environment where people can do their best work.
 

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is that leadership is not about knowing everything. It’s about listening, staying accountable, bringing the right people together, and continuing to grow.
 

My journey has included plenty of setbacks, long days, difficult decisions, and moments of uncertainty. But every challenge has taught me something. I still carry the same mindset I learned from my family and from those early days taking apart that old computer: work hard, stay curious, keep learning, and never become too comfortable with where you are.
 

I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but I’m even more motivated by how much there is still left to learn, build, and accomplish.
